What is the Caste System and what role did the Aryans play in its development?
The caste system was created by the Aryans. Everyone is born into a caste and you cannot change the caste you are in. A caste dictates whom you will marry and whom you can socialize with. They're 4 social classes called Varnas. The top two Varnas are Brahmans and Kshatriyas. The Brahmans are priest and the Kshatriyas are warriors who ran the government. The next level were the Vaisyas or commoners who were usually famers and merchants. Below the Vaisyas were the Sudra's which had no rights and most Indians belong to this caste. And there is one that is below all and do not belong to a caste which are the Pariahs or the Untouchables. They performed work that was "too dirty" for the rest to perform like collecting trash, skinning animals, and handling dead bodies. When Untouchables walk down the street they have to hit sticks together to give time for anybody around to run away.
