EQ: How did Egypt's Old Kingdom develop?
Egypt's old kingdom is the first of the kingdom of the 3 Egyptian pyramids. The Old Kingdom started in 2600 BCE (before common era) and it ended in 2300 BCE (before common era). Egypt grew a lot during these years. They built cities, pyramids, had a strong government with pharaohs, and expanded traveling. The Egyptian Government is headed by pharaohs. Pharaohs were thought to be son of the god Re the sun god on earth. Pharaohs were greatly respected by his subjects, they would bow down to him as he passed down the road. Egyptians were Polytheistic which means they believe in many gods. A couple of Egyptian gods were Re the sun god, Hapi the god of the Nile river, Isis ruler of the dead with her husband Osiris. Egyptians believed in a better life after death. When an Egyptian died they would take the organs out, wrap the body in linen, and put in several wooden coffins inside the other. Then thats where the pyramids come in. Pyramids were used as tombs for the Egyptian dead. They protected the bodies from grave robbers, floods, and wild animals.
